SWISSto12 HummingSat’s product line’s roll-out support at ESA Ministerial Council reveals subscriptions in excess of €30 million (2023)
HummingSat by Swissto12

SWISSto12 is using additive manufacturing (3D printing) to develop their GEO HummingSat, already sold to large satellite communications companies.

SWISSto12 is a growing Swiss company that pioneered the use of additive manufacturing (3D printing) to beef-up satellite telecommunications.
It was founded in 2011 as a spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne and has transitioned from a specialized component manufacturer to a full-scale satellite integrator, and has multiple big name customers. They are the un-heard side of the larger satellites.
They headquartered in Renens, Switzerland, and offices and facilities in the USA (California and Georgia), Spain, and the UK.

The HummingSat Platform

The SWISSto12 flagship product is the HummingSat, a new class of “small” geostationary (GEO) satellites developed in partnership with the European Space Agency.
A HummingSat is approximately 1.5m cubed, size of a washing machine, and weights about 1,000 kg which is roughly 1/5th of traditional GEO satellites.
They are planned to last 15 years and are developed for rideshare missions, meaning they shares the costs for launch and transit to GEO.
The roll-out is expected in to 2027 thanks to the anchor customer SES.

Their Core Technology: 3D-Printed RF Systems

The competitive edge is a patented 3D printing technology for Radio Frequency (RF) products
By printing the complex, monolithic (single-piece) structures, they eliminated the need for traditional joints and screws, which reduces signal loss. Therefore, their RF components (antennas, waveguides, and filters) are up to 10 times lighter and significantly more compact than traditional metal-machined parts. They also used advanced polymers and proprietary metal-plating processes to create bespoke designs that were previously impossible to manufacture.

Recent Developments (2025–2026)

As of early 2026, SWISSto12 has solidified its position as a major European “New Space” leader:
In January 2026, they secured €73 million from ESA member states and additional private capital, bringing its total recent funding to over €100 million.
They have sold multiple HummingSats to industry giants, including SES (IS-45 program) and Viasat (I-8 program). The recently unveiled a mission control center in Georgia, USA, featuring “digital twin” technology to manage satellite operations and electric orbit-raising.
Recent reports indicate the company is weighing an Initial Public Offering (IPO) as early as 2027, with potential valuations exceeding 1 billion CHF.
